Americans are just stupid

The madwoman is tired of eating roundup.  And tired of feeding it to her kids.  I don’t want to squirt roundup into their mouths at night after they brush their teeth.  They don’t like the taste.  And it makes them sick.  And it causes cancer.  So why have I been doing it?  I’ve been doing it for the same reason you’ve been doing it.   Because the FDA said it was ok.  Our government said it was ok.  The farmers said it was ok.  Why would any sane person say this is ok?  This is why:

June 27, 2012 (Reuters) - Global agribusiness group Monsanto Co (MON.N) posted higher-than-expected quarterly profit on Wednesday as net revenue grew 17 percent on gains in sales of seeds and genetic traits and surprising strength in herbicides

June 29, 2011 ST. LOUIS -- Monsanto Co. says higher sales of genetically engineered seeds helped it nearly double its third-quarter profit, as the company convinced more farmers to try its pricier new generation of corn and soybean seeds.

The St. Louis company reported Wednesday its net income rose to $680 million, or $1.26 per share, for the quarter ended May 31, compared with $384 million, or 70 cents a share, a year ago.
It says revenue increased 21 percent to $3.59 billion.

Monsanto makes billions of dollars.  So what, right?  Free enterprise.  The government doesn’t control Monsanto.  You know why?  Because Monsanto controls the government.  Yeah, right, you say?

These are all the former employees, executives, lawyers and lobbyists for Monsanto, that now or in the past held policy making positions in OUR government.

Look closely at Michael Taylor.  He was Monsanto's VP of Public Policy.  Pretty important position.  So important, that Obama hired him to be the Deputy Commissioner of the FDA.  Soo, the person who created public policy for Monsanto is now in charge of deciding if YOUR FOOD is safe.  If YOUR BABIES should have roundup squirted into their mouths before bed.  Just so we're clear on that.

These fucking food scientists managed to genetically modify corn (among other things) so that they could spray the whole crop with roundup and only the weeds would die, the corn wouldn't die.  The corn wouldn't die because the corn, in fact, would contain the same genetic qualities as the roundup.  Get it?  They said eating the corn was safe, because the roundup wouldn't survive our guts.  Our miraculously created guts, which account for our immunity, our well being, even some of our emotions....can withstand roundup. Ohhh....if only it were true.  If only our guts weren't so delicate and sensitive and.....important.  It's not true, because a little over a year ago, the journal Reproductive Toxicology published the results of a study which showed that Bt toxin, the pesticide now routinely genetically engineered into GE corn and cotton, was found in the blood of pregnant women and in their fetuses, as well as in non-pregnant women. This same study also discovered that glyphosate, the active ingredient in RoundUp, was found in the blood of non-pregnant women. This is not good.  This is incredibly alarming to me.  What is even more alarming is that the small group of people who care is so....small.  The rest of us just keep eating it.  We just keep squirting it into our mouths everyday.  I guess we'll stop when Michael Taylor tells us to stop, right?  Because he's concerned with our well being.  He gives a shit whether our precious babies get cancer.  Whether we get cancer.  Whether we die and leave our kids to fend for themselves without parents.  In Europe, this toxic food is not tolerated.  IT IS OUTLAWED.  In America, we gorge on it like fat nasty pigs.  Why?

Mostly because not eating it is so difficult.  That's why.  GE Corn and soybeans are fed to almost all animals that we eat.  So we eat it even when we don't think we're eating it.  It's being squirted into our mouths daily, whether we know it or not.  Throw your ear of corn away.  So what.  You're still not safe.  Because high fructose corn syrup and corn syrup solids and corn meal and soybean oil are in almost all packaged foods.  EVEN BABY FORMULA.  Likely the first ingredient in your baby's formula is CORN SYRUP SOLIDS.  Go look.

Not many people can afford to eat 100% organic.  I sure can't.  But every single one of us can become informed.  Every single one of us can complain about it, question it and make small changes.  Because that is free.

I'm not a scientist, but I'm going to tell you something I know about.  And it's death.  Don't let these wealthy corporate giants make you sick so they can get richer.  You think they eat this shit?  Hell no they don't.  You think their personal chefs are feeding them this?  They all eat organic food.  Eating roundup and Bt causes cancer.  Read the labels on the packages in your garage.  While you're in there, I dare you to lick it.  There is really nothing else to say, is there?

  8. I love you so much more right now than I even knew I could! I started researching this shit about 9 months ago and was horrified and appalled by what I found out about Monsanto and GMO foods in general. It is one of the reasons I went vegan a few months ago. But you are so right, it penetrates EVERYTHING! You have to grow it yourself or buy local and even then it is a crapshoot. This is scary shit and our government is in bed with this company that is killing us and our children slowly by poisoning the food supply. They are also single-handedly destroying the small farmers with ridiculous laws that are driving up the prices of our food and making sure no one speaks up or goes against them. Can I repost this Madwoman?

  9. You go Mad Woman!!! Been following you for a few weeks. this is my first comment. I am so with you on this subject. I HATE Monsanto AND Wal-Mart. Greedy, dirty bastards who slap that "made in the USA" tag on their crap and emotionally manipulate everyone. My dad is a farmer and swears that what monsanto has done to crop engineering had to be done to meet the needs for feeding the masses. I call BS. We fight over it nearly every time I see him. and gee...he is one of the most unhealthy people I know. Heart Disease, high blood pressure, severe obesity, can barely walk. Breaks my heart. Yet he still thinks a "100% all beef patty" Big Mac is a healthy option. Some people just can't be enlightened. Doesn't mean that All people can't. Keep on fighting the good fight. Spread the word!! It may be hard but guess what? We can do hard things!

    1. That's why they need to just label it! Let the people who believe it to be ok eat it. At least give us the opportunity to avoid it, rather than tricking us.

  10. Preach it, Madwoman!!!! This is why we are in a milk/beef co-op. We get our raw, unpasteurized milk and beef from pasture-fed, happy cattle that are not treated with antibiotics or growth hormones or fed corn feed, and eggs from happy, chemical-free chickens that get to roam freely, scratch the ground for food and live "normal" lives. I know not all states allow consumers to buy directly from farms like this, and that is a shame. It is also difficult to buy all organic 100% of the time, but minimizing the consumption of packaged, processed foods helps. BHA & BHT are preservative ingredients that are bad too. I don't think we should all freak out and think we're all going to get cancer, BUT everyone needs to be informed about this stuff so they can try to make the best choices for themselves and their families. We also need to make enough noise so our government starts listening....

I told that to my Gma as she just accepted when the hospital told her she was fine...and she hadn't been able to lay down to sleep in weeks cause she couldn't breathe. It was too late to save her from the cancer that riddled her lungs...but thank God there are people like you fighting for the right to our health! If it's okay I will post it on my blog too!

  14. Just to add - The good news is there are dozens of companies out there dedicated to making products without GMOs (i.e. Annies's, Kashi, etc.), and here's a great site you can go to and download the non-GMO Shopper's guide for free: http://truefoodnow.org/shoppers-guide/. Enjoy!

  15. I wholeheartedly agree with you. However, I don't see it ever changing. The population is rapidly increasing. How do we feed all these people? I'm afraid we can't go back in time and keep things more local. Not to mention the immense cost of trying to eat real food. I try, but feel thwarted at every turn.

  18. I hate to disagree with the Madwoman, but no, Americans are not stupid (we'll find out for real in November). Americans are far too busy trying to put food on the table to read about what is healthy and where to find healthy food.
Healthy eating has become time consuming because not only do we have to educate ourselves, but we have to go to special stores to find that healthy food. It's also very expensive-we are all so busy working just to put food, any food, on our children's plates. The paranoid part of me says this is all part of the plan-but Americans need to wake up and educate themselves about many, many things, not just our food supply-they need to stop reading the mainstream media crap and the crap on TV news and really research to find out who and what is controlling their lives-wake up peopel!! Before it's too late!!

    1. I read alot about what is healthy, and I do a fair amount of research to find healthy food. I shop at many different stores. I pretty much know what I buy and don't buy at each store. They are not all health food/healthy stores. Walmart who I loathe has lots of organics to offer at great prices. If more people bought them or even noticed them on the shelves, the prices would be even lower. It is way harder, and yes I miss the days when I was ill informed and just walked in and bought what was offered. I don't watch the news or get the newspaper, so I am truly one not terribly controlled by mainstream media. I do a fair amount of researching about subjects I'm interested in. Staying alive is one of them, LOL. I'm no scientist, I'm just a mom, but my gut tells me to eat natural healthy food. GMO aint natural. I read labels, and its a major pain in the ass. Esp now that I need glasses to see the darned things. If I can do it, everyone can. My two cents, again ;) Of course I'm guilty of trying to lure you people in with my catchy titles...you all know I don't think Americans are all stupid.

  20. I can't even convince my husband to drink Organinc Milk! LOL. My inlaws and my parents think Organic is a dirty word. Its infuriating. I simply can't afford to shop organic. I generally try to buy organic milk and sometimes a store will have a quick sale on grass fed beef. I can do it in small amounts but can't afford to feed just two people on that diet. I've said it to many people, if Organic/non-GMO/Free Range food was the same price as the chemical stuff, who wouldn't buy the healthy food? I have read up a fair amount and also know that Organic label is sometimes misleading as well. But I can't justify paying 5 bucks a dozen for Organic, Free Range brown eggs. I walk out of Trader Joe's with two tiny bags of food and it's 40 bucks. I can get a weeks worth of groceries for that much at Aldi's.

  21. Who controls the safety of our food is certainly an important topic. But this is not a strictly OBAMA issue. Anyone, like yourself, who knows anything about this knows that. I don't know if that's what you were inferring in your blog. So, in my opinion, republican or democrat, the worst thing we can do to make our voices heard is to turn it into a partisan issues. 1. I hold every asshole who ever appointed Michael taylor accountable. He's held various positions within our government since the early '90s, and he single handedly has more to say about what you eat than any president ever has.
During Mr. Taylor’s first tenure as Deputy Commissioner in the 1990s, references to the unintended negative effects of bioengineering were deleted from policy statements over the protests of agency scientists and independent researchers.
Does that piss you off? It makes me mad. I get even madder when I think about Michelle and her organic garden, because THIS is what she should be preadching, along WITH her organic garden and her good eating habits. Bet she ain't eatin' this shit! This isn't a partisan issue to me at all, just so we're clear. It has zero to do with being red or blue.

  22. Thank you Mad Woman!! More people need to rant about GMO's and Monsanto!!

To the person who said Kashi does not use GMO's that's not entirely true. There was a story awhile back about Kashi using GMO based plants.

  24. I heart you so hard for this. I'm tired of trying to raise a little boy in this country that is so incredibly screwed up... so I try to control the little things, the things I can control. You would think that what goes into the mouth of a two-year-old is controllable by his mother, but the government is even making THAT hard by refusing to label the GMO products. Switched to grass-fed beef and as soon as I can afford/find it, switching to organic chicken... already gardening and raising our own rabbit meat/eggs, just dressed out our own home-grown turkey for Thanksgiving and it makes me sad that nearly everyone I know is horrified by the idea of eating a turkey that you raised yourself. All because no one understands how their Butterball bird was raised/what it ate/how it died and got to them.

I'm trying to go completely organic. It's crazy expensive and we are young parents trying to survive a tough economy. But the whole concept of where our food comes from scares the hell out of me and I can't imagine losing my baby to cancer or freaking e-coli simply because he ate his dinner, that I fed to him. It breaks my heart.

  25. We are almost completely organic around here, other than a few servings of meat per week. We started eating organic when my son was diagnosed with ADHD, and when we told our doctor we didn't want medicate our son, he doctor suggested we try eating organic. I will be writing a post about our journey and how we manage to eat organic for the SAME PRICE as when we ate non-organic.

I love this post, Madwoman, and will be sharing! Definitely do more like this! :)

  27. Nice angry post, but doing a bit more research shows that the weeds can and are developing resistance to Roundup. Meaning that we may not have to worry about Roundup much longer. Of course, at that time there will be a new chemical to panic about.

If you want to feel safe about your food, grow it yourself. Otherwise there is NO guarantee about what is in the food you eat. You don't have to own a farm to grow vegetables.

All of a sudden we need to be concerned about our store bought vegetables because it has Roundup? Are you suggesting that the food grown in the 70's and 80's was accomplished by just throwing it on the ground and coming back when it was ready for harvest? Oh sure, we used lead based paints but the chemicals used in the vegetable and livestock industry then was 100% safe.

Also, just because you don't see the poisons and toxins being administered to the plants and livestock doesn't mean your food is safe. What about the grass that the livestock feed on and the soil that grass grows in? What about the hay they eat? What about the chemicals in the rain water that allows the plants to grow?

As a final note, that "organic" label you snuggle up to at night to sleep well is certified by the government as well. That same entity who is telling you Roundup is ok.

    1. I think you still have a bit of research to do. In the 70s they sprayed roundup and who knows what else. Key word "Sprayed". The seeds they use now have been genetically modified so that they ARE ROUNDUP. There is no washing off. Forget that. The corn is now the roundup. That's enormously different, because it's no longer just FOOD. If Monsanto is so proud of their GMO seeds and truly believes they are safe, then they should have no problem labeling them as such. Obviously they don't really believe the vegetables ARE safe, or they wouldn't be spending hundreds of millions fighting the labeling. Research that. Yes, we used lead paint for years. But lead paint wasn't in our food. People don't normally eat lead paint. Here's the bottom line. I'm not some fanatic. We cannot erradicate all toxins from our world. I'm just a mom, like all other moms, trying to feed my kids without breaking the bank, and trying to feed them nutritious food that nurtures and heals. I don't want to feed them toxic food. I don't want to feed them anything that isn't safe. I will take my chances with the organic stuff. It's the best thing I can do, short of farming myself, which i don't have the time to do. I choose to do that, rather than DO NOTHING. It's so easy to throw up your hands and say, "well everything is toxic." There are varying degrees of toxicity. I choose to eliminate what I know is unsafe because it's good common sense. And I don't snuggle up to organic labels at night. I snuggle up to 3 of the most precious children to ever grace this planet. Looking at their faces is where my common sense is derived.

So, the people slaughtering the animals are the same people who say its ok to feed us that way. Buy ur own cow, pig, chickens, grow a garden...whatever you have to do to decrease the poison we eat.
